Amsterdams Rijk & JCI Amsterdam International present: the World Trade Game 2026!
Ever played Settlers of Catan? Now imagine that on a grand scale, with real negotiations, time pressure and strategic dilemmas. The World Trade Game is a legendary management training, originally developed by the Institute of Social Studies under supervision of Nobel Prize winner prof. dr. Jan Tinbergen.
How does it work?
Your team represents a country in the global economy. In 3 rounds you work on your nation's economic growth by closing trade agreements, making investments and negotiating with other countries. After each round you get your scores back, so you see the direct impact of your decisions.
The twist: not every country starts with the same resources. Just like in the real world, inequality shapes the game, making creativity and cooperation essential.
What will you learn?
Negotiation under pressure - you have limited time to close deals
Strategic thinking - which investments yield the highest returns?
Collaboration & coalition building - you can't do it alone
Commercial insight - learn the dynamics of international trade
Conflict resolution - when interests clash, how do you solve it?
